A Lifeline for Hope and Help in Times of Crisis

Launched in July 2022, 9-8-8 is a free, confidential, and 24/7 resource available to anyone in the United States experiencing mental health or emotional crisis.

      • Trained crisis counselors who listen without judgment and offer support and de-escalation techniques.
      • Information and referrals to local mental health resources, including therapy, support groups, and crisis shelters.
      • Safety planning to help individuals develop coping mechanisms and stay safe in moments of crisis.
      • Follow-up care to ensure that individuals have access to the resources they need after reaching out.

      • Call or text 9-8-8: This is the easiest and most direct way to connect with a crisis counselor.
      • Chat online: Visit org to chat with a counselor in real-time.
      • TTY users: Use your preferred relay service or dial 7-1-1 then 9-8-8.

 

Is there a charge for 988 services?

No, all 988 services are completely free and confidential. You will not be billed for calling, texting, or chatting with a crisis counselor.
