Social Security benefits: (click the link to apply) These are monthly payments provided by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to eligible individuals and their families. There are five main types of benefits:

    • Retirement benefits: Paid to retired workers who have reached their full retirement age (FRA), typically between 62 and 67 depending on their birth year.
    • Disability benefits: Paid to workers who have a severe disability that prevents them from working and are expected to last at least one year or result in death.
    • Survivor’s benefits: Paid to spouses, children, and dependent parents of a deceased worker who met certain eligibility requirements.
    • Spouses’ and dependent children’s benefits: Paid to spouses and dependent children of retired or disabled workers, even if they haven’t worked themselves.
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI): Provides financial assistance to people with limited income and resources who are aged 65 or older, blind, or have a disability.

 

Social Security cards: These are identification cards with a unique nine-digit number assigned to each individual in the United States. While most cards look the same, there are different types:

    • Regular Social Security card: Issued to U.S. citizens and certain foreign nationals authorized to work in the U.S.
    • Limited-use Social Security card: Issued to non-citizens who are not authorized to work but need a number for other purposes, such as receiving federal benefits.
    • Temporary Work Authorization card: Issued to certain non-citizens authorized to work in the U.S. for a limited time.
