Body Donation
Body Donation–sounds a little creepy, but it serves two purposes:
- Educates future medical students.
- SAVES MONEY!
Medical students learn more by being hands on. They can see and feel what they are doing. You can only learn so much with books and computers. It’s not until they get their hands on when they can apply and expand upon what they have learned.
As for saving money, well, the average funeral costs @ $8,000! That’s a lot of money to spend on a fancy box and someone who never knew you talking about you. Save your family the expense. Donate your body to science – for FREE!
Most medical schools have body donation programs.
Remember too, there may be some minor expenses associated with body donation. To keep these costs to a minimum, we suggest donating close to home. Every program has their own rules, so please read them carefully! Mainly, the body must be whole – you will not be able to donate organs after death. Remember, there will be forms to fill out for consent–again read them carefully..
Also, if you donate, let your family know! Let this be one less decision they must make. The money you are saving them would be significant and will not put undue strain on them. Consider donating your body when you die, while the life you save may not be your own, it will help many people for years to come.
